Siding, roof and deck update - July 2023

In July, we were able to accomplish a lot. We were able to keep the existing tin roof with some minor repairs, sandblasting, and paint. Owning a sandblasting business has come in handy on several of our personal projects, and this was no exception. Sandblasting removes any rust and etches the surface in preparation for applying paint. It took several days and of course they were probably some of the hottest days of the year, but what a difference! We used a direct to metal paint that does not require using a primer first. This helps cut back on cost and time.

With the windows installed and the roof painted, we had our window guy install new siding. The existing aluminum siding had too much damage and it is hard to source so we just removed it and replaced it with new vinyl. New soffit was installed as a finishing touch and man, she looks beautiful!

We had a small deck built off the kitchen at the back of the house and our heat pumps were installed. And the best thing that happened in July? We passed our rough in inspection for plumbing and electrical and for the structural changes that we made!!!!

Interior updates - August 2023

Starting at the end of July and for the month of August, we began to focus on the interior of the house. We started with completing the installation of the hardwood floors throughout the house. Up untill this point, only the master bedroom and part of one of the bedrooms upstairs had been completed. We were able to save enough of the tongue and groove heart pine wood from the walls and ceilings of the house to lay flooring in 2 bedrooms, the kitchen and living room. I lost track of how many times we moved these piles of wood, but in the end, it was definitely worth it. The flooring has lots of character like you would expect an old house to have. Even though they are newly installed, they look original.

Next, we insulated all of the exterior walls and the attic space. Not much to say about ugly insulation but it sure does make a difference in securing the interior of the house.

Check back soon for sheet rock, floor finishing and bathroom floors install update!
